Catalog and/or special orders

Catalog Sales: Given the changes occurring in the way many train manufacturers are producing and marketing their products, in many ways Engine House Hobbies functions much like the old catalog stores such as Sear, Roebuck and Company and Montgomery Ward. That is, a store limited by its physical size but with an expansive catalog tremendously magnifying the volume and diversity of products available. Given the limited physical structure of the Engine House Hobbies building we cannot hope to carry the volume and diversity of products available to the various gauges of model railroading and associated railroading items. However, we can obtain almost any item an individual finds from a manufacturer, distributor or store catalog if the product is currently available. Our policy is to find and obtain for the customer whatever item the customer desires from a current catalog. Discounts are available on many catalog orders. Typical order discounts vary between six percent (6%) and ten percent (10%).
.
A ten percent (10%) deposit on the list price is required for new customers without a store history and on products not normally stocked by the store. Come in and see if we can find what you desire and establish a store history to get your discount.
.
Catalog Preorders: Engine House Hobbies requires a 10% deposit on all preorders with a $10.00 minimum per item. We are dedicated to delivering as best we can all preordered items. Orders are placed based on deposits made to reserve incoming merchandise to ensure you receive your order. In return, the deposit represents your commitment to purchase the item you have asked to have reserved. Therefore, deposits are non-refundable, not transferable and no interest is paid on any deposits on preorder items. Payment in full is expected within 10 days after you are notified the item has arrived. The deposit will be applied towards payment if the final payment is made within 10 days of notification. Voice messages left on a mailbox or telephone recorder are considered a notification. If full payment is not received within 10 days or if the store is contacted to make other pickup/purchase arrangements after notification the deposit is forfeited
.
Preorder discount: Depending on the manufacture’s cost and the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, a preorder discount is often offered. Normally a six percent (6%) to ten percent (10%) preorder discount is offered for cash or its equivalent (e.g., postal money order) or three percent (3%) to seven percent (7%) for preorder paid by credit card. However, the item must be either prepaid or picked up and paid in full within 10 days of notification unless prior arrangements are made.
.
Prepayment: A prepayment is a payment above the required preorder deposit. Any prepayment received for preorder items, or for items not available in the store but ordered specifically for the customer, are applied and held as a store credit. The store credit is then applied towards the merchandise when it is received in the store. It is expected the prepayment will be applied towards the requested merchandise. However, if the customer chooses, for whatever reason, the credit above the order or preorder deposit can be and to purchase any other store merchandise. If circumstances warrant using the prepayment credit for something other than the preordered item, the 10% order/preorder deposit will be subtracted from the credit balance and is not refundable or transferable to other items.
